Hide AdCoun David Dagger, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for transport and highways, said: “Our district has almost 1,000 miles of roads so when the worst weather hits we always prioritise our resources on the main routes and key pedestrian areas.
“We will grit our priority routes on a needs basis throughout the winter - these are used on average by over 90% of all traffic. Then, if resources allow, we will move on to other routes.
“When severe winter weather hits, our goal is to keep the main roads moving and ensure essential services stay open.”
The council currently has 6,500 tonnes of rock salt in stock.
