Third attempt to build log cabins on former pit land

Planning permission is being sought for four log cabins at Blacker Lane, but the idea was turned down by Wakefield Council planners in 2017 and 2019, claiming the land was green belt and exceptional circumstances were required to have any chance of planning approval.
Like in the previous applications, the applicant Gilbert Chapple claims the land, which was part of the former Brice Hill Colliery, was poorly restored after the pit’s closure.

Hide AdHe also argues that the land is actually brown field, and therefore can be built on.
A report with the latest attempt reads: “The site is brown field as proven by the discussions with the Coal Authority and the phase two site investigation of the land. The site has been reclaimed to a poor standard by the coal industry with nutrient poor grassland.”
