Pontefract Music Festival builds to a crescendo
The festival, which continues this weekend, featured school and choirs, quartets, ensembles and soloists last Friday and speech and drama candidates last Saturday.
Hemsworth Arts and Community Academy choir gave an impressive performance in all their pieces and left a very competent St Wilfrid’s in second place.

Hide AdIn the speech and drama classes were students from De Lacy Primary School who went on to win three of their entries. Inglebrook School, of Northgate Close, Pontefract also picked up a clutch of awards.
Principal Mrs Joyce Bellamy said: “I was very proud of the children and delighted with the high standards they achieved.”
Ben Ainsworth, 11, from Wakefield, won the Muriel Shone Award for the most outstanding performance with his rendition of ‘No Bread’ by Ian McMillian, He wore a flat cap and brought the house down.
Ysanne Morrill, from Leeds, gained an honours award for her Shakespeare piece. She said: “I didn’t do drama at school. I only started when I was 16 and I love doing it.”

Hide AdFestival secretary Brenda Adams said: “On Friday and Saturday it will be the turn of the instrumentalists and vocalists to take to the stage and we are looking forward to another wonderful, music-filled weekend.”
