'It's tough - boss Chris Chester reflects on Wakefield Trinity's poor Super League run after Huddersfield Giants defeat

“Proud Wakefield man” Chris Chester admits he is finding Trinity’s poor run tough to take.

The 29-6 loss at Huddersfield Giants was Trinity’s sixth successive defeat - five of them in Betfred Super League - since lockdown ended and Chester admitted they are in a “rut” and are falling behind the rest of the competition.

He accused his side of lacking “toughness and resilience” and conceded this is the most testing spell on his five seasons as coach.

“It’s tough,” Chester said.

“We have had a really challenging couple of weeks, with players down for a lot of reasons.

“It is really disappointing; you live and breathe this game - I am a proud Wakefield man and it’s an honour to coach this team.

“It is very challenging at the moment and I am finding it pretty tough, to be honest.”

With half-backs Danny Brough and Jacob Miller both unavailable, Trinity lacked direction in attack.

“We’ve been missing an organiser probably since Liam Finn retired a few years ago,” Chester reflected.

“There’s not a great deal out there.

“It is a patient game, we have got to wait and be cute with the money we are going to have to spend, but we had a team [on Thursday] which was more than capable and two more than capable halves who could and should’ve got us around the field, but that wasn’t the case.
