With the counting of the votes in the elections for seats on Wakefield Council starting this morning, results will filter through for each ward throughout the day.
Just over a third of Wakefield Council seats – 22 in total – are being contested.

The results are in!
And with that Wakefield South result - we come to the end of our coverage of the election. 22 wards across Wakefield and the Five Towns have been decided.
All the results are now in and it’s nearly a clean sweep for Labour. The party has made eight gains today, winning 21 out of 22 seats available on the day. The Lib Dems held onto their seat in Knottingley. The Conservatives lost two seats. The make up of Wakefield Council seats is now 56 for Labour, three Conservatives, three Lib Dems and one independent. Thank you so much for your company and have a wonderful bank holiday weekend!
Wakefield South
Shabaan Ali Saleem of the Labour Party has been elected for the Wakefield South ward with 1,326 votes.
Wrenthorpe and Outwood West
Brendan James Fraser of the Labour Party has been elected for the Wrenthorpe and Outwood West ward with 1,558 votes.
Wakefield West
Hilary Gail Mitchell of the Labour Party has been elected for the Wakefield West ward with 1,475 votes.
Pontefract South
Julie Craig of the Labour Party has been elected for the Pontefract South ward with 1,925 votes.
Stanley and Outwood East
Matthew Morley of the Labour Party has been elected for the Stanley and Outwood East ward with 2,432 votes.
Wakefield East
Natalie Walton of the Labour Party has been elected for the Wakefield East ward with 1,754 votes.
